2. FLAGELLUM, Reda, quadriga, quæ scilicet ab auriga flagellum tenente regitur.[] Lex 5. Cod. Th. de Curiosis (6, 29.) :
Per singulas redas, id est, quas Quadrigas, vel Flagella appellant.
Ut porro Rhedæ Flagella dicebantur, ita vice versa rhedæ dicta flagella : siquidem ita emendare liceat in Vita S. Nicolai Studitæ pag. 912 :
Κελεύει τούτου ϰαὶ τά τε τῶν βραχιόνων, ϰαὶ τῶν ὠλένων ταῖς λεγομέναις ῥέδαις μαστίζεσθαι.
